This page describes a laser cutting setting published for Cerisier at 3 mm, tested on a Longer Ray5 fitted with a Diode 10W source (445 nm blue diode, 10 W). It states the exact machine, source, material, thickness and operation of the test; power, speed and number of passes are shown with a Premium pass.
Why those four facts matter: a cutting setting that works on Cerisier at 3 mm does not transfer to another thickness, nor to another source. A 445 nm blue diode rated 10 W does not deposit the same energy as a stronger module, and the speed has to be adjusted accordingly. Copying a number without checking those four points is the first cause of a ruined part.
Published by LaserSettings (estimation). No other workshop has confirmed it yet: treat it as a starting point, and confirm it from your account if you reproduce it.
No photo comes with this setting yet. If you reproduce it, publish yours from your account: a picture of the result is worth more than a line of numbers.
Recommended routine before running the part: clean the lens, redo the focus, engrave a small test grid on an offcut of the same Cerisier, then adjust the speed rather than the power. Work with fume extraction and air assist, wear glasses rated for 445 nm blue diode, and never leave the machine unattended.
Longer makes entry-level diode engravers and higher-power module models, with a touchscreen and aluminium frame. They engrave light wood and leather cleanly; on acrylic, only opaque colours react, as with any blue diode.
Cherry is the wood of premium pieces: a pinkish tone that darkens with age, a fine grain, and a pleasant smell when cutting. It engraves with a medium but very elegant contrast, and works more easily than oak or maple.
Cherry is of medium density: 45% power at 2,700 mm/min with a 20 W diode is enough for engraving. It tolerates overheating poorly, giving a dirty brown rather than a clean one: prefer two light engraving passes to one strong pass.
For cutting it behaves like walnut: two passes from 5 mm with a diode, one pass with a 40 W CO2. The edge stays clean as long as air assist is on.
Common thicknesses: 3, 5, 8 and 10 mm. Cherry is often sold as boards of uneven thickness: measure before setting focus, half a millimetre changes the look of a fine engraving.
Specific pitfall: cherry darkens naturally. A piece delivered light will turn amber within months, and engraving contrast will drop. On a commission, warn the client or push the contrast slightly.
